Preparing Leaders in Criminal Justice

Criminal Justice

The Criminal Justice program empowers you to become leaders within the criminal justice system.

How You’ll Do It

Our program combines courses in policing, corrections and procedure with studies in the social sciences to introduce you to the theory and practice of criminal law and the moral complexity of the criminal justice system. Along with internships and the guidance of our faculty of experienced practitioners, you'll be prepared for careers such as law enforcement, counseling and probation. Many of our graduates advance into graduate study or law school.

A Balanced Experience

The criminal justice system is rarely simple, so the practitioners must be able to think critically and creatively. We provide the professional education required for you to enter the field, but we also combine it with a curriculum that encourages the capacity for critical thought and analytical reasoning.

Experienced Faculty

You need to be prepared for all the moral dilemmas and complexities the legal system brings. It's why we employ people who are actively working in the field to develop the curriculum and guide lessons. For example, Lieutenant Ed Cunanan has more than 25 years in the field of law enforcement. Currently, he is the head of Internal Affairs for the Woonsocket Police Department. And Robert P. McKenna is currently a special assistant attorney general at the Rhode Island Department of Attorney General. He's assigned to the County Intake Division and screens approximately 2,000 felony cases a year.
