Roger Williams University has been a pioneer in assessing prior learning for over 40 years, and has long recognized learning is a lifelong process occurring both in, and outside of the classroom. In continuing our tradition for assessing prior learning, Roger Williams University is proud to offer a specialized prior learning credit evaluation program for students who have volunteered with AmeriCorps VISTA. This program has been designed specifically VISTAs who are looking to build upon their existing experience, and are seeking an affordable, high quality education.
VISTAs who participate in our Assessment of Prior Learning program, will earn standard RWU credits for their successful completion of VISTA pre-service trainings. Additionally, students will participate in a 7-week online portfolio development seminar, to create a substantive portfolio documenting their learning during their time with AmeriCorps VISTA. At the end of the 7-week course, this portfolio will be reviewed by a team of RWU educators, who will then assess it for documented credit.
Combined with existing college transfer or CLEP credit, RWU is offering VISTAs the opportunity to document up to 90 credits towards the completion of their degree. This prior learning assessment program is currently available, at no cost, to students who have volunteered in the AmeriCorps VISTA program and will be enrolling in a degree at the RWU School of Continuing Studies.
