My Story

Lieutenant Ed Cunanan has more than 25 years in the field of law enforcement. Over his career he has proudly worn the shield of the Woonsocket (RI) Police Department and the star of the Broward County (FL) Sheriff’s Office.  His service as a police officer in communities with significant socio-economic challenges has provided Lt Cunanan with invaluable insight into critical issues facing criminal justice today.

Lt Cunanan has had the opportunity to fill many different police roles, including patrol, field training, detective, swat, honor guard, and supervisor. Of all the roles he has assumed, Lt Cunanan cherishes most the responsibility of leading and mentoring others. He is currently the head of Internal Affairs for the Woonsocket Police Department.

Having earned both his Bachelors and Masters in Criminal Justice from Roger Williams University, Lt Cunanan is very grateful to have the opportunity to return to the school as an adjunct faculty member. Lt Cunanan has found a new passion in teaching at the RWU School of Justice Studies and the School of Continuing Studies.
